Hey, Jesus, Show us God!
Philip was one of the disciples who was following Jesus. He had heard a lot about God, and knew that Jesus knew God. So he asked the question that was on everyone's mind. "Jesus, could you show us God?"
He didn't expect the response that Jesus gave. Do you know what it is?
You should look it up. It's in the beginning of chapter 14 of John.
This summer we are going to explore why Jesus responded that way. There are so many good things about the answer!
We will see you at camp :)
Check out the names of our staff and remember some of the awesome fun last summer.
Discoveries for RO may have been different.
Can you quote any of the verses from memory?
Devos is short for 'Devotions', but what are they?
We spend time with friends to get to know them.
To know truth about life, we spend time with God.
We can talk to Him like we talk to anyone else, and we call that prayer. We can listen to Him by reading God's Word.
Here are some links to some sites that offer good devotions every day.
From time to time we may add another short important truth for you to think about. Click on what interests you.

    After God's Own Heart!
The Bible refers to King David as being a man after God's own heart!
    What? Is that even possible?
Oh yes, it is possible. In fact, God created us to be capable of good thoughts and good heart, to love and think as He does. One of David's secrets was that he knew how to keep short accounts with God. He did this by being humbled about his sin and admitting it to God.
If we hide sin, we are in trouble. God sees it anyway. David knew that God wanted to help him, even forgive him. But God knows the heart, so we cannot trick Him into thinking we are sorry when we are not. It is better to desire to be truly sorry, to seek God's heart, and to ask Him to help us be more like Him.
How are you doing with this? Have you been keeping accounts short? Do you run to God for forgiveness when you know you have disobeyed Him?

    Holy? What's that?
Well it is about God, and it means that He is set apart from evil. He's set apart so much that He is always good.
David knew that God is Holy! He knew God. And he knew lots about Him.
    • God is all powerful.
    • He is God of all the world
    • The Lord is our Maker
    • We belong to Him
    • He takes care of us
    • He loves thankfulness and praise
    • He is good
    • He is merciful forever
    • He is truth forever
    • He is all wise
David trusted God with his life too. Do you remember the story of Goliath?
    Being Right, Before God Tue
Saul was king... but he kept disobeying God. So God took the kingdom from him.
God sent Samuel to anoint the next king. Samuel learned that something was different about David.
"Man looks on the outward appearance, but God looks on the heart!"
What did God see in David?
    • David desired righteousness
    • He was quick to ask forgiveness
    • He humbled himself
    • He wanted God to lead
    • He believed what God said
    • He spent time with God in silence
Samuel anointed David to be the next king.

The story of David and Bathsheba is sad.
David wanted to be obedient to God. He was called a man after God's own heart.
    And then he sinned!
David didn't just sin. He took steps away from God that kept leading to more sin!
    • He started watching Uriah's wife.
    • He entertained thoughts of being with her.
    • He stayed home when he should have been out.
    • He invited her to his place in secret.
    • He committed adultery with her.
    • He tried to hide the sin, through Uriah.
    • His trick wasn't working because Uriah was honorable.
    • He arranged for Uriah to be killed in battle.
    God saw it all.
    A Plea for Mercy? Thu
We hide our sin or blame others.
Hiding sin doesn't work! Blaming others does't make us less guilty!
Sin hurt David's heart for God. At first he hid his sin. God had to show him!
So David confessed it all, but the hurt ruined purity and life between David and God.
It causes our relationship with God to die. That causes us to die.
God's promise was to take care of our sin. How did He do that?
He sent His Son to pay the price on sin.
Jesus died, and later came back to life, to show that sin is completely paid for.
    We can have forgiveness!

Our world tells us so many lies?
Lies about life, about us, about God...
We need a constant source of truth!
God’s Word is God's truth and message to us. Look what the Bible does for us.
    • It gives understanding & wisdom.
    • It changes the way we think.
    • It brings humility, turns us around.
    • It chages the soul... your innermost part.
    • It makes the simple wise.
    • It makes your heart rejoice.
    • It helps us know God.
    • It endures forever.
    • It is pure and good.

    Psalm 27:1

"The Lord is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear? The Lord is the strength of my life; of whom shall I be afraid?"

    Psalm 27:14

“Wait on the Lord; be of good courage, and He shall strengthen your heart; wait, I say, on the Lord!”

    Psalm 19:14

“Let the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart Be acceptable in Your sight, O Lord, my strength and my Redeemer.”

    Psalm 24:3-4

“Who may ascend into the hill of the Lord? Or who may stand in His holy place? He who has clean hands and a pure heart, who has not lifted up his soul to an idol, nor sworn deceitfully.”

    Hebrews 10:30-31

“For we know Him who said, “Vengeance is Mine, I will repay,” says the Lord. And again, “The Lord will judge His people.” It is a fearful thing to fall into the hands of the living God.”

    James 4:7

“Therefore submit to God. Resist the devil and he will flee from you.”

    Psalm 51:2-3

“Wash me thoroughly from my iniquity, and cleanse me from my sin. For I acknowledge my transgressions, and my sin is always before me.”

    Psalm 51:17

“The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit, a broken and a contrite heart — these, O God, You will not despise.”

    Psalm 19:7

“The law of the Lord is perfect, converting the soul; the testimony of the Lord is sure, making wise the simple;”

    Psalm 19:8-11

“The statutes of the Lord are right, rejoicing the heart; the commandment of the Lord is pure, enlightening the eyes; The fear of the Lord is clean, enduring forever; the judgments of the Lord are true and righteous altogether. More to be desired are they than gold, yea, than much fine gold; sweeter also than honey and the honeycomb. Moreover by them Your servant is warned, and in keeping them there is great reward.”

  • God is not only at camp!
I remember when I went to camp many years ago, I was amazed at all the things around me that reminded me about God.
There was the huge mountains and the river and all the trees and so many other things, big and small. Wow! I could see God's hand in all of those things. It really was awesome!
There was the feeling that God was always close, and so many of the staff seemed to talk to God and know Him.
I figured that God must be closer to the camp than anywhere else. But I was wrong! God is everywhere and always knows when we are seeking Him. So you can talk to Him any time, anywhere and everywhere that you go. Jesus said, "Listen, I am with you always."
    What if I still sin?
Sometimes when we disobey God, and feel bad about it, we end up kicking ourselves on the inside more than anyone else does!
Don't ever forget God's promises! He said "If we confess our sin, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sin, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness."
God also promised to work in our hearts and make us more like Him all the time. Do you believe that Jesus paid for your sin? Then also believe that it is forgiven. God won't forget you. Just tell Him about how you feel and ask Him to help you remember that you belong to Him.
Just don't believe the lie that God must have forgotten about you or kicked you out because you did something wrong. Our judgment was paid for on the cross! So what else would he judge you for now? "Thank you, Jesus, for taking all my sin."
